Have you ever thought "That person / company / etc. is being irrational" ... and then when you dug into the details, realized you were wrong -- that their strategy actually made sense, or that their goals were different than you assumed? I'd be interested to hear examples!

Yes, such as when people add theory to the end of a word to make it sciency! — signalling, and the harmless errors picked on in Nudge and so on are usually explained by ‘satisficing’

In other words, when it's not immediately obvious why a person made some choice, do NOT assume the person is an idiot. Consider, instead, that they might know something that you don't. Unless the person in question happens to be a CEO! Then it's signaling theory to the rescue!
