Noticing associations are part of being accurate about other peoples beliefs and motivations. Don't try to make this another forbidden base rate.

You left out the right answer. Guilt by association can be a very useful way to learn what's wrong with your own side. If Communists or Nazis or any other cracked group, like the Amish, keep siding with your ideas, it's time to reapply intensive critical thinking to those ideas.
