Language or violence. Diplomacy or war. If you reduce the ability of heads of state to talk to each other candidly, for fear of conversations being made public later, you inhibit language. You inhibit diplomacy. You increase the risk of war. Is that really what we want?

I don't think the players involved are thinking of the long term, more consequential implications. It's just "win now", at any cost.
