Many of my students are ex-military. They know what's what, and are almost never ideologues.
I was a traditional student, but the GI Bill students were _much_ better prepared for school. 1.They were a little older. Those extra couple years of maturity was a big deal. 2. They knew how to work. Even if a 'partier', when it came time to work they were serious about it.

Oh God! Most army personnel these days see little warfare, they are there to protect our liberty, as a deterrent! It is all to do with discipline, order and logic, that is why they are often very good out in civvy street! They know all about consequence of actions!
