I use y'all intermittently, my southern roots show up from time to time. I don't begrudge anyone else who wants to use it. Maybe I'd be skeptical if it were for pandering purposes.

OTOH, you may not say "younz, yunz, yinz" or any derivative unless you grew up within sight of the (now sadly defaced) US Steel Building.

I am on the bluegrass side of the river and I don't like it when Kentuckians use it consciously to signal tribe. This is especially annoying when done by politicians and in tweets. If it comes naturally in casual conversation then it's fine.

I'm such a regional sponge that I've managed to, unintentionally and un-ironically, use "dude" "y'all" and "eh" in the same sentence. The result of traveling a lot and living part-time in different places, for work, I think.

I'm an Australian who married into a Texan family. Even though I'd prefer not to use it, I find myself doing so. Especially in text form.
