This captures the problem well. “Standing the ground for truth and honesty” presupposes that you know the truth and that those who disagree are being dishonest (or willfully stupid). It’s not analytical, it’s dogmatic and ideological. With New Atheism, it carried a high price.https://twitter.com/BilboMichal/status/1174502933800587265 …

Is the third point an intellectually honest way to evaluate an idea?

It's a persuasion-relevant point in understand how alienating and counter-productive a certain kind of arrogance can be.

What’s the link between the Simulation Hypothesis and New Atheism?

-
Simulation hypothesis suggests there may be Simulators behind the curtain -- one, or many, or an unknown system of intention and advanced technology.... It's hard to remain a 100% confident Atheist if you really understand the Simulation Hypothesis.

A shame how many people possibly lost faith to third-rate intellectuals (philosophically third-rate anyway). Also, simulation appears to be a new strange tech spirituality. Many will do anything to avoid a metaphysical reality... i.e. Divinity.
-
Which 'Divinity' are you referring to? Athena, Guanyin, or Mictlantecuhtli?

Number 3 is essentially where my understanding of "New Atheism" comes from. It was a political mixture, not unlike atheism+, that was "atheism" mixed with a snarling sense of anti-theism. Basically Bill Maher is the poster child of new atheism at this point.

There's no such thing as new atheism, making this whole discussion bizarre. The argument of the atheists in question isn't that religion provided no advantage to anyone, but rather than any advantage provided comes at a bigger cost than it's worth and can be had without religion.

Wait wait wait... New Atheists have broad opinions on Brexit? What is the opinion, I'm guessing it's Remain? Is the 3) argument here that the elitist-like vein that runs through New Atheism is off-putting?
-
Yes. Some prominent New Atheists are very strong Remainers, and it can come across as very elitist.
