On the upside, this topic really brings the psychopathic trolls out of the woodwork, and enables a very rewarding blocking spree.

Of all the ways to lament the cruel nature of the universe, the suffering of chickens is an odd one.
-
We torment and kill 9 billion chickens a year in the US. It's not a small issue in terms of net suffering.

I'm guessing there is a strong selection effect here. That the majority don't like factory farming but don't feel strongly enough to say anything, and that a small number are very vocally anti factory farms or *whatever makes people vocally dislike vegans*
-
It might be worth doing a poll. I'm not entirely sure what the categories would be. (Vegans & vegetarian | eats meet) | (thinks factory farming is morally wrong | thinks it's not morally wrong or doesn't care)

Would you consider it acceptable to eat a chicken that was raised free-range or in some other humane circumstance?
