The US can support KSA’s response with a variety of means, but it remains my opinion that it would be incredibly unwise for the US to incentivize allies to punt to us.

Why is the USA acting like we have to play the KSA's bodyguard forever? They're an oppressive little theocracy with 1/10 of our population, and we don't need their oil any more.
