Is that book (or its cousins) widely used in teachers colleges? Curious about the reach and relative importance of this style of pedagogy.

This type of stuff is the dominant ideology in academia these days and has been for quite some time. This is a very poor example though - poorly written, full of errors and simplistic in approach.
