Not sure. If humans lie to themselves in order not to betray their deceptions, a sufficiently competent AI might not need to. ...
AIs themselves will get into deception arms races against each other, and the adaptive self-deception logic will take over. Like the lies & strategizing between AI 'Minds' in the Iain M. Banks 'Culture' novels.
