Perhaps they didn't ask because intelligence, not being an "inclusive" trait (not everyone is capable of having it), is a less politically correct trait than kindness (and certain other more widely-possessed human traits).
and/or they were afraid of finding cross-cultural differences in its importance for mutual mate choice....
