Naturally, educators dislike the idea that individuals differ in innate intelligence, so favour ideas that allow them to regard all as having equal intellectual potential. If a kid is struggling with algebra, it can be said that with the right teaching method they'd be a genius.

This stuff still exists in the Texas school system. It's hard to break people of old habits or beliefs even when you show them the evidence. There is always some outlier case which had more to do with outside circumstances than they realize.
