Scripture aside, the Church has taught for centuries that you die, you get judged, you go to Heaven or Hell, period. Or does your soul split in two, and half gets reincarnated, and then half of that after the next death gets reincarnated again..... ? Makes no sense whatsoever.
That could mean something or not depending on your view of ecclesiastical authority. I never said that Catholics (e.g.) were like to buy it. I am thinking more about what is scriptural/reasonably compatible with it.
Salvation is like enlightenment in buddhism a state of mind. Reincarnation is there so we can develop and understand reality. Church can modify religion as it sees fit, people have their own intuitions...
