Eh, "witless signalling" seems a bit harsh. While not guided in the most effective manner, the benefits of signaling that there are a cohort of people out there doing "good" on a site that is often anything but, can take things in a positive direction.
IMHO, #TwitterPhilanthropy without understanding @Effect_Altruism is just witless signaling.
