PS if screenwriters portrayed characters who were really good at resolving conflict using their words, they wouldn't have enough conflict to drive a plot. So, screenwriters cannot portray good roles models for marriage, friendship, or political discussion. This is harmful, IMHO.

Ever since my high school English classes, I’ve not been able to watch movies without this very suspicion. Heck, music, too!

Do you still enjoy though?

It's funny how the screenwriters view of the world becomes the journalists view of the world and together they make sure it becomes the public's view of the world. Both need conflict and villains to tell their stories.

Scandinavians -- they portray human psychology in such an original way, and always with a perfect touch of humour. My faves being Ruben Ostlünd, Roy Andersson and Aki Kaurismaki

Don't forget Bergman, some of his lesser known movies are actually pretty funny!

If an indie group made a big dent with a smash movie featuring good verbal conflict resolution, it could trigger a (temporary?) shift in what screen properties were Greenlit. I'm wholeheartedly for it.

You should 'look' into Corey Mandell. He's a script teacher in H-wood. Dives into the psychology required to make compelling conflicts and characters. Emphasizes 'going deeper' into one's self, past one's inhibitions and 'darkness', to find the 'core' of a character. A+
