Many public universities (which are arms of the state) now require candidates for faculty positions to pledge their 'commitment to the values of equity, diversity, & inclusion'. Is this an unconstitutional form of 'compelled speech' (a political litmus test)?
So, citizen's rights can be set aside in the service of the greater good?

Of course they CAN be, e.g.: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korematsu_v._United_States … I don't think that they SHOULD be, but the most reliable way to ensure that they aren't is through substantive political/philosophical, rather than nominal/legal, struggle.
