From an evolutionary perspective it might be dumb but imo it makes perfect sense surrounded by a historical context.
Both are a function of a feedback loop. "Natural" selection is feedback between the phenotype and the entire environment. "Sexual" selection is feedback between the two sexes of the species only. Makes one wonder whether selection exists at intermediate scales between the two.
Even artificial selection is natural. All successful selection is sexual.
And yet, sexual selection seems really effective even in that case. Maybe more effective. Could it be there is something counterintuitive at play?
