Should some topics be off limits for empirical investigation?

This is very close to how I would answer the question as well, but if someone presented compelling evidence that pursuing certain psychological questions likely would be catastrophic, I might rethink those. In the absence of such evidence, we should prioritize the truth.

Any that could lead to a self-catalyzing superintelligence 'take off' process. Or that puts AI in charge of crucial civilizational infrastructure, or nukes.

pushed into our judicial systems once again and is causing a great deal of damage & destruction to many lives while eroding all of our rights, just as it did the first time. Anything proven to harm lives should be a no go.
