Why should they? They aren't funded by the trust levels, right?
They will lose gov't funding and go bankrupt, once taxpayers lose all faith in them.

Ideally, but how does the public make it clear? So far it seems a partisan issue at best, is there enough distrust among the left aswell? I mean the vocal left seems to have embraced academia because of similairities.

It depends. If you prompted for trust in social science, rather than allowing social science to launder credibility from physical sciences, I suspect the levels of distrust would hit around 80% for Republicans and would increase among Democrats.
