Not true! They deny constantly any responsibility, seeking instead to externalize blame.

It’s an inescapable feedback loop that has to either be stopped by law or simply be allowed to burn itself to the ground. These institutions are now largely only harmful to society.

They are also caught in a prestige-trap. Any admission of wrongdoing would shatter that which they covet most... status.

It’s not just that they are “bad” or some such thing. These are centers of sedition, human rights abuses, and cultural terrorism.

When I went to a Univ in the late 80's, there wasn't an internet and opportunities for self teaching were fairly limited. Universities of course still provide the structure and contacts for collaboration, but no longer possess the same monopolies on information they once did.

Been using udemy and egghead for online courses and they're superb. "How to do X" seems well covered. Not sure you could say that where the aim is "how to reason" or "how to think". But I doubt universities can be relied on for this either.
