I think Bernie Sanders came over alot less radical than in the debates i think mainly because of the lack of time constraints. Smart move by Bernie!
Plus @joerogan is way cooler than anyone at the NY Times. 
I think you're onto it Geoffrey. A well rounded individual like Joe (father, comedian, tv show host, athlete, recreational drugs, curious mind) can bring info out of someone that the general public is interested in hearing.
