Great advice on how to persuade rather than polarize on gun control. Basic moral psych, Dale Carnegie: https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/lee-carter-gun-control-is-what-most-americans-want-heres-the-only-way-for-both-sides-to-get-there …pic.twitter.com/Wo8In8qD2T

Also, gun control advocates will be vastly more persuasive if they learn something about guns. Take some classes at your local shooting range. Talk with folks who own guns. Don't make the newbie errors that too many make, that undermine credibility.

Increasing the lethality of violence reduces overall violence about tenfold. I think it's worth it! How's that?

Did the math a while back and it seems that for every lethal shooting there about 10 less non-lethal stabbings or beatings. Makes sense in terms of game theory...

Curious how you expect experience to change the conversation? Definitely agree re talking with gun owners. (Asking as someone with plenty of experience.)

For example, it makes a difference knowing that 90% of gun homicides are by handguns, not rifles.

The problem is that once they know about guns, it becomes even harder in some ways to make a cohere argument. They still can, mind you, but it just requires falling back on the same rhetorical tropes. I've had Marines outright claim that their rifle was more dangerous...

Agreed, another problem is that our legislators here in CA make nonsense laws bc they either don't know enough about guns themselves, or they are just being fed legislation to propose so that they look good to their voters.

The presumption all gun control advocates dont know anything about guns is false. I have seen some war vets here talking for gun reform. Its also weird seeing the guys who DO know about guns being dishonest about shit like AR-15 not being nearly as effective as military weapons.
