Question: how would your life have been different...if when you were a young adult you were bombarded with the rhetor and imagery of "in 12 years the world will be an unlivable killer steaming cesspool". We're turning our vulnerable kids into nihilists.

Yes, fair point. Although, when I was a young adult in the 80s, we were all convinced that there was at least a 50% chance of global thermonuclear war within five years ... and we still studied hard for exams.

I remember watching Spies Like Us and understanding that War Games are real. It is a cheap trick to suggest that Gen X got off easy bc we had great music, bad hair, and neon clothing.

People are always obsessed with the end of the world. That they're special and will be the last humans alive and it's never come close to being true. It's absurd and damaging to people's psyche. Yes CC is a problem we need to solve but it's not going to be the apocalypse

We were more sure of nuclear war in grade school in the 60’s.

50% is better than the scenario they are being fed now. Green movement is wailing over a battle lost flooding us pictures of immenent disaster, yet studying hard for exams was never a better idea. we need as many able brains possible to figure this out. Transhumanisim in schools

50% chance of survival. Better than the 0% that ecolophasters give us.

Same. I think it might've been easier believing (in my case, given proximity to 2 AF bases) that death would be instantaneous and certain - harder to live with today's fears of active shooter or global warming, because of fear/need to respond correctly and potentially survive.
