It would be awesome if we inhabited a world in which all virtue signaling had to be backed up by action. It would be a lot quieter, and Twitter would be full of more constructive discussions and pictures of dogs. (Pictures of cats are virtue signaling.)

Is is why I actually love things like the “Ice bucket challenge” or that “Harlem shake” nonsense, because it weaponises value signalling to raise money for charity. Look at meeeee being virtuous = actual $$$ for charity.

I much prefer if the average person does not act on their moral values. Leave effective altruism to genius billionaires and let the plebs signal.
