I’m reasonably socially conservative because I believe that’s the best position to maximize human flourishing. If I come to believe that that calculation is wrong, then I will change my position.

Since when was that an impediment to having an opinion? Can't tell you how many people I talked to who had super strong opinions on the book "The Bell Curve" who did not even read one word of it.
