A good person is good to good people, and good to bad people. A good person is good in all contexts. A good person isn't good just because someone is watching, and a good person especially isn't good so that people watch.
Nice in theory. In practice, that's not an evolutionarily stable strategy.

Actually, I'll go a step further-- living concerned mainly with surviving and reproducing is a deeply unethical lifestyle, at the very root of what ethics are. Ethics are a branch of philosophy meant to determine "the right" in many contexts...
