PS my personal take is that virtue signaling should be a mixed/neutral term overall, but that as a behavior, it can be done badly, unselfconsciously, and/or delusionally, or done well, with self-awareness & humility. For more on that, see my new ebook:http://gum.co/nhFKP

The term--that I believed you coined--is great, but like many great terms, has become co-opted for tribal ends and far too over and incorrectly used. Glad to see you making an attempt to correct its understanding in public, despite an understandable pride in its use & politics.

I've been talking about 'signaling of moral virtues' since 1996, but I honestly didn't coin the term 'virtue signaling', which I think comes from the LessWrong blog c. 2013, inspired by Robin Hanson, who in turn may or may not have been inspired by me....
