Apart from global nuclear war I am unsure what will alter the course of civilisation as irreversibly as climate change?

Widespread embrace of nihilism would be at least as bad, possibly worse. Faith and transcendent values are vital, yet seen as anachronistic and oppressive. This attitude is truly an existential threat. Dostoyevsky illuminates this as well as anyone.

Tyler Durden has been the only honest environmentalist.

I assume the timetable has been shortened because they don't expect to be in office more than 14 months

It's weird because it's not true, 'The Left' does not think that. For a scientist, you have an awfully binary view of politics.

The Republicans used (and abused) the national security meme post 9/11. Dems are now doing it with climate change, tacking it on to every issue instead of being specific and actually helpful.

Also weird that the only way they envision stopping climate change is by destroying capitalism which happens to have built civilizationpic.twitter.com/3IwqNHynrY

Just google the heatwave of 1911, you'll see it was just as hot but lasted 2 & a half months. Also it didn't rain for 20 consecutive days. I'm 81, & I've seen quite a lot of very hot days & droughts. In the 70s all the rivers ran dry,& it was always going to be like that too.
