I am not a fan of the peacock feathers because feathers in birds actually do signal something very real to females... either genetics, ability to find food, immunity, etc... Virtue signaling however is hollow. So, I don't think that imagery works.

All signalling (including virtue signalling) at the origin must signal something of value. The peacock’s tail is perfect because the process came into place organicallybut has since entered a vicious circle
