The biggest issue I see is not if an activity can be addictive, but if the activity in question is the root of the maladaptive use or some other underlying issue.

In my opinion (and I understand this is not the best approach for such a topic), addiction is any uncontrollable behaviour that makes us give up on objectively/biologically good things. Technology reduces good conversations, books, sex, intimacy, sleep... The list is long.
