Yes. Color is not a matter of electromagnetic radiation but rather our perception. Therefore black is a color as well. As opposed to the empty void of nothingness we (do not) perceive at the perifary of our vision. Nothing is the only thing we perceive with our eyes without color

It’s a shade, like black or grey

A shade is just a variation of a color. Black and grey are also colors. I can mix paint to create them. White however is similar to a primary color, (red/blue/yellow) and requires it's own pigment to create the color.
