That's why I worry about PC shutting down topics of inquiry, it leaves a vacuum for tools like that.

Yep, when any reasonable inquiry fades away, vacuum creates hardcore positions, like "all men supports rape culture, patriarchy is oppressing women" OR "most (all?) women wants man's money".
