Given MMA, why does 'boxing' still exist? Genuinely curious.

Boxing also for them moment has a bit more cultural recognition/prestige. Maybe due to the pop culture place it held in the 20th century. Possibly could shift in coming years but don’t think we have to view it as a zero sum game between the sports. I enjoy watching both.

Many people who train mma at the highest levels will have coaches that are single discipline experts. For an ordinary person being good at one can seem like a full time job. This era of martial arts has been an enlightenment phase in the disciplines.

That's precisely the reason why MMA should be more interesting. Floyd Mayweather is undefeated, but as a novice boxer I can barely recognize the technique he implements. In MMA, I am watching a science experiment. Which martial arts are the most effective?

To be fair there are a ton of minute details in any exchange but I would somewhat agree there is slightly less subtlety than in the individual core sports

I think moreso it’s about the people. When boxing no longer has interesting humans competing, it will die. Pre - mcgregor mma was big but not massive. He made it massive.

I’m not so sure about that. UFC 100 is still one of top 5 biggest ppv’s ever if not top 2 or 3. GSP routinely put in 800k-1million buy performances. The there was Lesnar. Not to mention month by month the “regular” PPV’s got WAY more buys.
