Many psych researchers dream of getting that TED talk ('OMG so inspiring!') and then the corporate speaking gigs. This incentivizes bad science that gives 'uplifting' messages.

Are the incentives any worse than publish-or-perish if the peer review standards are suspect?

Peer review distorts scientific content less than the drive to develop an inspiring corporate-friendly 'personal brand' as a scientist.
