Part of avoiding identity politics is avoiding the garbage on both sides. Yang does not need to comment and sink to that level. Nothing about what happened will unify the country.
At this point, the only way to avoid identity politics is to denounce identity politics.

The sad thing is that not saying anything likely won’t lose him any support, but if he does denounce it he’s going to receive a LOT of blowback from some of the left. I hope he does though- it’ll be worth it

Exactly my point. Look, the Antifa is crazy. We all know that, but so is Richard Spencer and the people the Antifa fight against. Combined, they make up .01% of the country. There is no need for Yang to attempt to appeal to either side. His lane is perfect, he should stay in it.
