I'd like bo
@EPoe187 to try to explain most knowledge of how physics work is "intuitive". We actually fought tooth and nails for millennia to overcome intuition (sun rotates around the earth, just look!, earth is flat or I would fall from it!) -
I think there may be some degree of conflation here between 'intuition' and 'presupposition': this latter being the set of (often tacit) assumptions upon which 'that which seems obviously true' rests. We still use intuition, we have simply altered the presuppositions behind it.

Many modern intellectuals appear to be nothing but vapid linguists with high levels of verbal intelligence. It's like the only tool they know how to use is a hammer so everything looks like a nail (ie, they use their only tool - language - to deconstruct everything).
-
Then again, it's not just academics, though they're the worst - it's also journalists and politicians. As a society we increasingly prioritise all of the less meaningful characteristics and traits.

What does "most" mean here? How do you quantify it? Some important knowledge is certainly "tacit" as set out by Polanyi.

When we lived in small tribes, whose intuition was right was critical to survival. Now social intelligence (winning arguments) is everything. Being right doesn't count for jack, until civilization is at risk. But selection has all been for dumb, calculating people, so we all die.
