Indeed, so many coincidences: 1. Both fires happened in France. 2. Both structures were made primarily of wood. 3. Old wood is extremely flammable. 4. Historical structures weren't built with fire protection or suppression in mind.

Multi centuries old oak beam (Notre-Dame) are not highly flammable. Steel is more flammable than this kind of wood.

This cause for the increase of suspicious fires can't blamed on conservatism, free-enterprise, capitalism nor the culture of self-reliance & self-responsibility. Of these, France has very little and what is left is declining. So, just what are the reasons for their decline????

Coincidence is coincidence. Lackluster funding for preserving old buildings in a country that is littered with them will cause such accidents.
