Maybe so, but from that perspective, at least they aren't tossing them billions on the back end and letting loan holders default... Paying the loan off makes far more sense, given the two.

In Italy current government passed a so called "fiscal peace" (supposedly interrupting the "war on the taxpayer") with forgiveness for tax arrears etc etc

Unless maybe you’re in the 1% club with money parked offshore can you get a special rate to bring it back. Or one of the 60 big business that gets to pay zero or less taxes. Or if you’re a Wall Street billionaire with a lower rate. We the people each just need a few lobbyists.
