My town abolished the full day kindergarten fee the year after my last daughter finished kindergarten. Cost me $7000 to send both kids to full day. Do I feel a little snarky about it, sure. Do i want them to reinstate a stupid, retro fee from a past time of SAHMs? No.

My damn microwave went on sale right after I bought it! No one should get something I don't have! No one should ever pay less than me.

And, a lot of students worked three jobs so that they didn't have to take out loans. Those students should be reimbursed for the loans they would have taken out if they weren't so hard working. If you're going to destroy a nation, do it fast.

(1/2) They shouldn't just forgive debt, but they should make it dischargeable in bankruptcy like they do for every other form of debt. Some people did end up with useless degrees and way too much debt, and now they're stuck in a shitty financial spot.

(2/2) And they do bear most of the responsibility for not planning better and choosing a more useful degree. But it's the same story with most people that go through normal bankruptcy, too. Making it dischargeable would offer those who actually need it a way to a fresh start.

If I invent a gene therapy that cures cystic fibrosis, do I then have to compensate everyone who suffered for years with cystic fibrosis?

I don't support debt forgiveness. But I do think that the line of reasoning above is faulty.

I’m curious about how it would work? Would they reimburse those who had to work full time jobs and pay as they go on top of those who had took on debt? Some didn’t take out loans and the cost was more of their time getting those degrees. What about them?
