Curious, Dr Miller: is there an argument on Coates’ side that you •would• accept as coherent? It’s a genuine question. If there isn’t, perhaps it’s not about the coherence (or not) of Coates’ argument, and simply that you disagree with his conclusion...
I'd love to see a coherent argument for reparations, if it is possible to construct one. I can't imagine what it would be, until I see it. But that's often the way with intellectual progress.

Are you defining a “coherent” argument as one that you might potentially find persuasive? If so, I think I use the word differently. An example: I find the arguments of the Mt Pelerin lineage (eg Hayek, Friedman) “coherent” but not ultimately persuasive.
