Well, with income you could control for the fact that access to some professions is restricted by IQ similar tests so naturally only people with higher IQ will get those jobs. These professions are mostly well paid.
Catch-22: the better IQ tests predict professional competence, the more they're used to select into a profession, and the more circular the IQ/income relationship looks to the casual observer.

Yes but it is a question of degree. Do you really need such a strict IQ test? For example medicine admission tests in Germany will get less strict on the test side as Germany experiences problems in finding family doctors willing to move to smaller cities.

A lot of strict tests are used to protect some professional groups from too much competition on the market.
