If education weren't built on pseudo-science, then you would've used the subjunctive correctly in your last sentence.

The "self esteem" thing actually began in the 70s on the heals of nuking of the nuclear family. No one seems to get how violent and drug ridden the country became in the course of barely a decade. No one wanted to do the heavy lifting of restoration so we got "esteem-ed" instead

Self reliance and resilience is the path to self esteem. Teach kids to be mentally tough and watch what they can accomplish. Coddling only serves to enslave them.

Change the focus to confidence as opposed to self-esteem. As you and Tucker cogently explained, confidence is built as you gain skills through focused practice. Teach kids a lot of useful skills early on, “self esteem” will follow later in life.
