Most PhD programs teach students nothing about how to get book deals, do podcasts, give interviews, run a YouTube channel, use social media, or engage with the public in any way. As if getting cited by a hundred colleagues is worth more than reaching a million fellow citizens.

Would a PhD student need to be taught how to do those things?
Only if they want their ideas and research to have any impact.

I'm not dismissing the value of those resources and methods, I'm just not convinced they need to be *taught* necessarily There are vast resources (through some of those platforms in fact) available for pointers effectively using them
