He’s not a step-father though. They’re not a family. They’re not modeling a healthy, happy relationship for this little girl. This isn’t family values.

He's only not a step father in a pedantic sense. Geoffrey was obviously referring to the role the man has taken, not the title. They're as much of a family as they say they are. The health of the relationship they're modeling should be determined by their actions, not orthodoxy.

He's acting like one. What is a more important criteria to determining the suitability of a label than the extent to which the actions of those with the label match the actions of the person in question?

Well he would get mocked a bit if he was dating her, but the fact that he’s friend zoned and taking on parental duties is what is getting the attention.

This is only inconvinient if the man attracted to the woman. If he has his own girlfriend/sexual life it it is not humiliating. I have a friend whom I find beautiful, and vica versa, but we are completley asexual towards each other. I would be happy to hang out with her kid.
