Both are obviously true. Human childrearing requires more parental investment than any other species. And in an age of contraception, people continue to have children.

But rate of population growth seems to be slower in places where: 1. Contraceptives are relatively easier to get. 2. Social safety nets exist for older population - ergo kids aren't a retirement plan.

If producing children was far less rewarding than not producing children, but sex was still fun, intelligence would be maladaptive.

I'd also like to add that my beef with
@primalpoly is due to the fact he advocated a form of eugenics (embryo selection) that included de-selecting (genocide) people with my kind of creative intelligence, as well as selecting embryos with higher IQ.
