It may be that all kinds of animals are of equal value when it comes to the reasons for not killing them, but this is far from self-evident. There's a spectrum between fruit flies and the family pet. Chickens are somewhere in the middle.
I agree with that. I just think chickens count for something.

I don't think treating occurrence of finite-length lives rather than no lives as bad, referring to this scenario as 'killing', makes sense from utilitarian perspective, unless you endorse antinatalism. There's plausible complaints to make re farming but I don't think this is one.

Much as my conscience would appreciate the easy out, I don't think we can rest the case for meat-eating on the premise that shortened lives are better than no lives at all, else we could just as easily breed human populations for organ-harvesting.
