It may be that all kinds of animals are of equal value when it comes to the reasons for not killing them, but this is far from self-evident. There's a spectrum between fruit flies and the family pet. Chickens are somewhere in the middle.

No, I think chickens are a bit less sentient, but their lives in factory farms are much much worse than an average dog's life.

in Asia, chickens were domesticated for cockfighting (pets!), and dogs were domesticated for food (the Chinese word for "cook" is literally a pictograph of a dog over a fire 然).
