Or they just prefer great screenwriting to spectacle? WGA puts GOT at #40 for best writing (all-time), with BB at #13 and Sopranos at #1. For me, it's a tie between BB & Mad Men (#7), though they lack GOT's mass-appeal. I'd rewatch either of them before GOT.
PS people who think 'The Sopranos', 'The Wire', or 'Breaking Bad' are better than GOT are mistaking incremental improvement over previous TV series with absolute all-time quality & awesomeness. Agreed on GOT being best so far, and agree that there was a “discontinuity” in quality but I thought it was at Sopranos, because HBO businesses model allowed for it

Breaking Bad isn't even that old. I'm not sure the attraction there is as much nostalgia as it is a show that was actually incredibly well done, much more so than GOT.
