Disagreed. Eventhough virtue signaling is at play here, the design attempts to incorporate religious values into the very architecture; a physical embodiment of some of the principles in which the Church stands; Charity and Compassion. The rest is pure aesthetic masturbation.

This is not even modernism.
@primalpoly has many good takes but whenever he tweets about architecture it’s always the same ignorant dicothomy of modern=modernist (bad) / traditional, in whatever style = nonmodernist (good). Ridiculous banalization - 3 more replies

Is it virtue signaling if you are actually doing something to realize those virtues? Virtues that are in-line with the spirit of the place?

I think virtue signalling is pretty much what Notre Dame has always been about (as, to be fair, has supporting the vulnerable and homeless). Other than that, aesthetic opinions are just that - opinions. They said much the same about the Eiffel Tower.

I don't know. I think it looks pretty sweet. I think it respects the Gothic style while recognizing that it won't ever be what it once was. Like you can clearly see the old and the new. And in some ways it ties together the present with the past.
