This thread doesn't leave room for simple lazy writing "We want a cool visual" -> kill off all dothraki : lazy How to avoid siege weapon animations -> put em on front line: lazy Need a deus ex machina -> Euron fleets shows up unexpectedly (again x7): lazy

I don’t think you’re using deus ex machina correctly. Euron ambushing Dany is entirely probable.

Meh. I mean, he's right, but the real issue is that they're just not talented. And given what we've seen over the past 10-15 years, most Hollywood writers aren't. Their motivations and goals are very different from literary writers, ergo different results. C'est la vie.

Good thread, and I think he’s right, but I just can’t get past the idiotic physics of the ballistae (seemingly 100x the energy they should have). You’d think the writers would wonder what was possible with a tech they add in, right?

That thread itself is classic pantser. Incidentally, I think that is why the original Star Wars worked so well. It was a decent marriage of the two storytelling styles; plotting and letting characters grow organically.

BTW I think Silvermint nails it

I think much of this could have been reconciled, at least to a degree, if season 7 and 8 were both 10 episodes. The show demands room to breathe. Seasons 7 and 8 have felt a bit rushed. Still better than most anything else out, however.

Pretty bang on. A Dance with Dragons is a mess by the end. It needed some pruning. Although I’m definitely confused as to why they neede to make these seasons so short. Makes no sense at all.
